Set at the foot of the Hunters Hills with the legendary white horse towering above the grounds, the Southern Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association was proud to host it’s inaugural A&P Show in 2011 along with a Spring Equestrian Show.

Our association is an amalgamation of the former Timaru and Waimate A&P Associations and so brings to you the combined experience of over 270 years of annual shows.

The A&P show is one of Waimate’s major annual events and the committee looks forward to bringing you more excitement and entertainment on show day. Classes are wide-ranging; from horses, ponies, sheep, alpaca, dog trials, cattle, and dairy goats; to the home industries section catering for arts, crafts, baking and floral for adults and children.

Our Spring Horse Show offers a wide-ranging programme for all levels and is the ideal springboard for the new showing season. It is ideally suited to bringing out young horses, ponies and riders as the atmosphere is very relaxed and there are none of the distractions of the traditional A&P Show.

We extend a warm invitation to all exhibitors as well as the public. All the information you need to plan your exciting family day out is available in this website, and if you have any questions, please contact us and we will do our best to help.

SPRING HORSE SHOW 2020 / 10-11 Oct

A&P SHOW 2020 / 7-8 Nov

Our 138th year of operating Waimate’s showground is unlike any other.

The enduring fun-filled traditions at our Waimate’s showgrounds and its 138 years of operation have faced challenges before, but none have created as much uncertainty as Covid-19. So to be super clear, planning  and preparation for the 2020 events are in full swing. We open on 10- 11 October with the Southern Canterbury Spring Horse Show followed by the A&P Show on 7 – 8 November. Still it it’s impossible to know what changes this pandemic might force on our events as winter & spring approaches. Directives from the government and Waimate District Council – aimed to safeguard the health and safety of all our visitors/competitors – will inform any potential decisions. After all, our chief concern is your wellbeing.

And if there’s is anything we know for sure, is that Canterburians will be more than ready to have some good old “fun events” when those gates swing open. Until then, please be safe. We look forward to seeing you at one of our events, also known as the “fun Waimo events”.
